        Taxation Taxation

Methods of taxation affect every American citizen, and great care must be taken to implement a system that supports the necessary functions of the government while distributing the costs fairly amongst the people while being as transparent as possible.

We believe that taxation should be simple, a requirement which will entail significant tax reform. Citizens deserve to know how much thay are paying and how their tax liability is calculated. They should also know when they are being taxed. Embedded taxes hidden from the consumer diminish a citizen's awareness of taxation. Gasoline and "sin" taxes should be prominently displayed so that the consumer knows what they are paying to fund the government. Corporate income taxes are another form of embedded tax, and this practice should be carefully examined for transparent alternatives.

The Concord party recognizes that tax burden must not fall to those living in poverty. We also believe that those who benefit most from American institutions should shoulder the greater proportion of expenses. To institute this principle we support progressive taxation with no loopholes, shelters etc. We call for restructuring of regressive payroll and Social Security taxes.

There are inherent costs to society in depleting or degrading our air, water, and other natural resources. The Concord Party supports taxation that reflects the natural wealth that is being consumed by personal and corporate entities. This will create free-market incentives that maintain the environment in which we live.

The Concord Party further believes that the widespread evasion of taxes is an indicator of a tax system in poor health. No tax should be raised to the point where smuggling, illegal employment, and other tax evasion become common problems.
