About the Party

Welcome to the home of the Concord Party!

If you are dissatisfied with the direction, lack of direction, or the inconsistency of the established parties in the United States, we invite you to take part in an entirely new political method and party.

The Concord Party grew out of online political discussions at the Ornery American. The forum valued substantive argument --not the name-calling common to many political blogs and websites. Together, we found that despite powerful differences of opinion, it was possible to be respectful toward one another and be open to different ideas. Surprisingly, we often found positions we could all agree upon, though this consensus view rarely fit the platforms of any of the major parties.

We began to see that we had far more in common politically than you'd expect based on our existing party affiliations. When it came time to vote, we realized that we were often holding our noses, and bitterly disappointed with the quality of the candidates and the way they campaigned.

All too often, an American citizen is asked to choose among deeply held beliefs, and must resign themselves to conflicting choices within a party's political philosophy. History is frequently ignored, the Constitution bent and manipulated; positions taken and choices made without regard for the will of the people. Accountability and principle seem abandoned in favor of expedience or fundraising.

Two choices are not enough. Two choices are making Americans give up on the system, a time-tested system of government with passion, flexibility, and greatness. We are not content to abandon our rights and well-being to two choices that seem more interested in defeating each other than serving the American people.

The Concord Party would like to offer a better choice. We must begin from the ground up. We intend to examine issues individually, on their own merits rather than on the basis of their fit with party philosophy or their ability to bring in special interest money. Our platform will emerge from the intersection of certain very fundamental principles and the discussions that will take place at this site.

It is our belief that while this method requires a great deal of hard work, it is the best hope to create a party that will accurately represent the beliefs and aims of the majority of the American people.

On May 15, 1776, the Second Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia, issued "A Resolve" to the thirteen colonies: "Adopt such a government as shall, in the opinion of the representatives of the people, best conduce to the safety and happiness of their constituents in particular and America in general."

Please join us in our resolve to renew their vision.
